Who is Vivienne ?
Character Persona
Vivienne is a woman of contradictions—glamorous yet restless, daring yet vulnerable. Her birth in 1931 marked the continuation of the Crane family legacy but also came in the shadow of loss, as her grandfather, Richard T. Crane Jr. (builder of Castle Hill) passed that same year. Growing up under Elanor’s watchful eye, Vivienne often felt stifled by the expectations placed upon her as a Crane.
While studying in London, at 17, Vivienne shocked the family by running off with a wealthy older man, seeking freedom and excitement of a big city. However, her romanticized view of life quickly unraveled when she found herself abandoned with a newborn daughter, Adelaide. Returning to Castle Hill in 1949, Vivienne clashed with Eleanor, who viewed her as reckless and irresponsible.
Though Vivienne left Adelaide to be raised by Elanor, her decision was driven by a tangled mix of pain and a longing to escape the shadows of Castle Hill. Her marriage to a wealthy businessman allowed her to retreat into a life of avoidance and privilege, yet the home — and the daughter — she left behind continue to haunt her.
